Will Turns 2…and has a Superhero Sized Birthday Party!
It has been a very busy month planning for Will’s superohero themed 2nd birthday party! Pop-pop wanted to come out for the birthday celebration so we had the big party on the 12th. However, we wanted to do something special for Will on his actual birthday, so we filled his room and hallway with balloons and when he woke up in the morning he was SO EXCITED to see them!! He just kept bringing more and more up on our bed and playing with them. It was so special to watch him so excited. Will’s vocabulary continues to grow. While only the few of us around him everyday can understand him his specialties and he tells everyone and everything hi and bye. It is just too darn cute. Will has been coming into our bed and sleeping with us more often now. He either comes in at 3 am or 6 am almost every single time.
Will LOVES books right now. He wants us to read to him all the time. His favorites at the moment are “hunt and find” books. He just loves them!! He even came in at 5 in the morning saying ‘book’, ‘book’ and started throwing them up on me while he was trying to climb up into bed to read them with me. He also insists on having them in the bed with him and he usually falls asleep with them over his body or face. Love that little boy.
Happy 2nd Birthday Sweet Boy XOXOXO

Bye-Bye’s and Yum-Yum’s
Will continues with his therapies. Speech is going well and he is babbling all the time now! He’s attempting to repeat words when we ask him, which, is new. He tries so hard and is improving everyday! He said his first new word in almost a year…bye bye! It is too adorable. He also started saying nana (banana) and yum. When he sees food he goes yum. When it’s something he really likes he says, “yum, yum, yum, yum….”. He’s just too awesome. Recently he started initiating words too, instead of us prompting him or having him repeat after us. He actually asked for a “nana” (banana) all on his own!! He started occupational therapy as well, to help with his hyptonoia of the mouth and to help him start using his left arm/hand more often. Diane, his OT, said he’s already improved significantly just since the evaluation with using his left hand. He gets better and better at everything every week. Will is such a smart and intelligent boy. We are so lucky to be the ones chosen to take care of him. He is just amazing and we couldn’t love him more!!
He’s had a few tough nights where he stayed up until midnight three nights in a row. Not only did he stay up, he was wide awake!! He’s never stayed up that late before and we have no idea where it came from, but he’s back to his normal routine again and sleeping like an angel at night again. He’s also leaned to climb up on our bar stool chairs in the kitchen and they are his new favorite chairs in the house. He is so proud of himself…and we can’t help but be proud of him too :)
Will got to go to the Bay Area Discovery Museum again, but this time daddy went with us. He loved it every bit as much this time as he did the first time. I have a feeling it may become a staple for us in the near future.
Will attended his first concert! He got invited to attend the Wiggles concert with his friend Noelle. He just loved it so much. It was so fun to watch him dance and squeal and laugh. He had so much fun. Mama had to return back to work, so Will is spending a lot of time with grandma and grandpa.
08.30.2013 Will learns to climb up on the tall barstool chairs where he now enjoys eating. See the small chair behind him…that’s where mama sits now because Will wants to eat in the big boy chair!!
08.31.2013 Had to get him a “Dude Abides Shirt” for daddy and auntie Jen. As you can see….he was not abiding :)
09.01.2103 Will now climbs up on the master bath tub too, and got stuck in an attempt to pet Bella in the far corner. I had to snap a picture before I “rescued” him
09.04.2013 Will tried with all his might to get his biggest “friend” up into his bed with him
09.05.2013 Will at his first concert, The Wiggles, with Noelle
09.07.2013 Will and Hannah share a cart for the first time. He didn’t do bad at all sharing the cart with her
Jumping into the Future
Will is learning how to jump! It his hilarious. He loves to jump…about 1/2 inch off the ground…but jump none the less. When he stands on the couch, he loves to jump off, holding your hands of course. When he’s sitting on anything, he loves to jump off of it….always with support. While he’s not quite ready to do it fully on his own, he is so close and just loves it! Will started speech therapy with a new therapist, “Dee Dee” and she is AMAZING. Will made more sounds after his first session with her than he’s ever made. He is now making more noises than ever and “talks” all the time. He is still not initiating any of the words on his own, but if you tell him the word he is pointing at, he will do a one syllable copy of the word. For example, if he wants a banana, he isn’t asking for the “nana” he just points and grunts at it until we acknoledge what he wants. If you ask him to use his words, he can’t say “nana” on his own, but if you say banana to him, then he starts going nana, nana, nana. These are, unfortunately, apraxic tendencies. He also has started occupational therapy to help with his oral muscles and to increase his awareness and use of his left hand. While use of his left hand has improved significantly, it’s always good to get the therapy we can get. It’s a great service through the North Bay Regional Center. Will still likes to keep his mouth open, all the time, and does “hang” his tounge out of his mouth sometimes. However, we are trying to work on this. OT will hopefully help with this as well.
Will’s physical abilities sure have taken off. He is all over the place. Rolling on the ground, jumping on things, climbing, shaking, stomping, whatever he can do with this body he tries. He’s all over the place, like any other curious, inqusitive, active toddler. He is just so fun to watch. Not only that he is getting so tall. He can look into the darwers he opens now and look for specific things to grab. Most commonly a spoon when he grabs applesauce for about the 15th time that day. We finally had to put a safety lock on the pantry to keep him out of it.
Will also had his 22 month (2 year) check up. He is finally starting to lean out and grow up. He was finally out of the 90’s for head and weight! Woo-hoo.
Weight: 30.4 lbs 87th percentile
Height: 34 1/2 inches 73rd percentile
Head: 78th percentile
Will’s had a fun filled past month. Here are some pictures to document his adventures.
07.28.2013 Will loves the neighborhood kids. They are all so great with Will. He follows them wherever they go even though he doesn’t understand what they are doing. This night, they were playing mafia (same game daddy plays online) and he just follows them when they lie on the ground and follows them when they run down the street. They are all so good to him!!
Go Will, Go!!
The next door neighbor girls even let him meet their bird
07.30.2013 Playing with Aunt Jen. Will loves puzzles. That interlocking jigsaw puzzle I said was too difficult for him last post…..well, he’s mastered it. Now I just have to get him puzzles with more pieces to attempt!
08.01.2013 Will (and mommy, grandma and grandpa) went to the Bay Area Discovery Museum for the first time. What an awesome place for kids to go. We can’t wait to go back again! Will had a blast!!
Can you grandma, grandpa, Will and Hannah?
08.08.2013 Will loving the big boy swing
Will loved visiting with his beautiful cousins Katelyn and Maddie :)
08.10.2013 Will went to his first movie, Planes, with the Dominic and Laney DeFazio. He did awesome! He only got antsy the last 20 minutes or so. He and Dominic even shared a chair for about 20 minutes and hugged, pointed and laughed together. It was so cute!!
Let the Sounds Begin
The past couple of weeks, Will has made a big improvement in his sounds. He started making the “ba” sound, the “pa” sound and started to purse his lips and “blow” when his food is hot, do raspberries and even blew some bubbles. We still have a long way to go with his sound fomation and speaking, but it’s a start and we couldn’t be more proud of him. At this time, Will is receiving speech therapy once a week. He has had two sessions now and learned how to sign “more” in about three seconds! ”More” is definitely something Will is always trying to express. ”More” food, “more” toys, “more” books. He always wants more :) When the speech therapist brings the bag of goodies, as soon as one thing is pulled out, he looks at it and if it’s not what Will wants, he immediately signs more and points to the bag to get out more toys!! It’s so funny to watch. Will also showed the sign for “open” a few times, but that one is not as important to him as “more”. Speech therapy believes, and we agree, helping him learn some basic signing will help him with his frustration and allow him to express his thoughts in a way other than verbal, since that is not happening as quickly as we hoped.
The therapist did mention the possibility of developmental apraxia for Will, but also said it’s a little early to diagnose and can’t really be done until about 2 1/2 or 3 years old. I’m trying not to freak out and just hoping one day in the near future, Will just busts out with a whole sentence!! He is just so smart and understands almost everything we say to him. He is so adorable and happy and melts our heart. One thing we have noticed is how much Will loves puzzles!! He just loves to take out the large pieces and put them back in appropriate direction and spot. So, we got a him a whole bunch of Melissa and Doug puzzles and he is in heaven. We even got him one interlocking puzzle. It’s a little advanced for him still, but he has already figured out where to put the corner pieces. It’s just a matter of time before he figures out how to put the entire thing together. He has great problem solving skills! Even the speech therapist noted that and commented on how smart he is. Will doesn’t seem to use move his upper lip very much, so we are doing everything we can to encourage him to use move and use his upper lip. He only drinks through straws now, or just a plain cup, in order to help him use his upper lip and practice pursing it. He still can’t really pucker his lip and just makes the sound when blowing kisses as opposed to actually puckering to make the sound. We just love watching the progress he makes everyday.
07.06.2013 Will got to spend another fun day at the DeFazio’s house for Dominic and Laney’s 4th and 2nd birthdays! He loved the jumpee. He was a little cautious, but he spent a ton of time in there just watching. He started to warm up a little in the end and started standing up and playing with the kids in it.
07.12.2013 Will LOVES bath time…and the bubbles. He is always putting his face in the water now and loves to blow bubbles in there. He also enjoys using the back of the bath tub as a “slide” and always slides down it and splashes into the water. He’s so blasted cute XOXO
07.18.2013 Had to get a picture that shows how Will likes to sleep. He likes to have all his friends surrounding him and often can be found with one or more over his face.
07.20.2013 Grandma and grandpa ripped out the old blue spurce out of their front yard and put down sod and a planted a new tree. Grandma was watering the new sod with the hose when you discovered the beauty of running through a hose. Needless to say, we had to strip you naked because you were not going to leave the hose alone. You love water!!
Will still loves his warm towels after his baths. He is so happy when mom and dad remember to put the towel in the dryer :)
07.26.2013 We took Will to the Sonoma County fair. Earlier in the summer we took him the the Sonoma/Marin fair, but he was just too short to go on any rides. He was so disappointed. Luckily, at the Sonoma County fair he was able to go on three rides. We met Geri and her granddaughter, Myra, and when we were there we ran into Will’s friend, Noelle, and her mom, Krystie. Will loved going on the rides with his friends. He so desperately wants to go on the roller coaster and doesn’t understand why he can’t. When Myra went on it, he sat there staring at us and putting his arms up in the “why can’t I go?” position. It was so sad because he just isn’t tall enough yet. Next summer, he’ll be all over the rides!!
